In 1963, the body of President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in Dallas three days earlier, was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, following a requiem Mass in Washington. At her husband's gravesite, Jacqueline Kennedy lighted an "Eternal Flame" that burns to this day.
